Tips & Strategies

There is no way to be prepared for every hardship or predicament that you'll find yourself dealing with during the Mountain Quest. But some good advice I can give is to make becoming an alignment your #1 priority when the game begins. The reason being is so that you can find places to heal easily at the beginning of the Quest when your most weak and losing Hit Points a lot.

I always start looking to Heal when I'm down to 3 Hit Points. Its quite possible to lose 2 Hit Points in one round and having just 1 Hit Point is a very dangerous way to explore the Mountain Area. I also avoid venturing out into the Mountainside until I'm strong enough to easily defeat the Thieves in the Hide Out. I also like to have a Magic Carpet for my Mountain Goats before going up to the Mountainside as well.

Practicing a lot in One Player mode is essential before playing other people. In One Player mode you can afford to make mistakes. When playing against another player, mistakes that you make will give a more experienced player an advantage. When your playing against another player, and its a close game, every Strength Point counts. If you have Hit Points, its worth it to Attack another player, even when your down by a few points, and try to take something that adds to their Strength or helps them in Combat.

If your playing against a formidable opponent, it's a good idea never to give them a break or do something that may benefit them. Like dropping them a Sword or any other items that may help them out. Also, when another player is much Stronger then you and there's no way you can beat them in Player Combat, I like to destroy or sell any Item that I have that may benefit them if they happen to land on me and take it from me via Player Combat. Even if the Item is helping me, I think it's better to destroy anything that can help my opponent defeat the Mountain King before me.

When your opponents are much stronger then you and it looks like its impossible for you to win my advice to you is to never give up. It theoretically takes just 2 of the right Encounters to win the game at any given point during the Quest. I've lost many times to Jimdica when I was much stronger and constantly beating on him. He'd get the right Encounters and turn things around and take the win right out from under me. It's a most humbling defeat. Anything can happen in the Mountain Quest but if you Surrender, you close all your windows of opportunity and admit defeat in a cowardice fashion.

It's close to impossible to make all the right moves at all the right times. Even if you do play a perfect game, since the Mountain Quest is so variable, there's a chance that you'll still suffer and be defeated. My last and most important pieces of advice about the Mountain Quest to you is to always read the descriptions and try to learn from your mistakes.
